Ann Herbert

Ann was born in England in 1831. She had three brothers and one sister. As a young girl, she worked in the hop gardens by day and sewed kid gloves at night to help support the family.

When Ann was twenty-six, she and her sixteen year old sister, Hannah, along with three year old Charles sailed from Liverpool on May 3, 1856 on the ship "Thorton," arriving in New York on June 14th.

From New York they traveled to Iowa then crossed the Plains with the James G. Willie Handcart Company.

Ann pulled a handcart with all her belongings. After the third day Hannah grew ill so she pulled her also. When they reached Fort Laramie they waited for wagons from Salt Lake. They left most of their belongings there with the promise they would get them next spring. But never did.

Ann worked for Mr. Rockwod for a year then married Andrew Jackson Rynearson on March 15, 1857. They were the parents of nine children. They lived in Sugar House, Then later bought a farm in Willow Creek, where she made her home until she died.

Her husband moved to Woodland in 1879 and left Ann the property to help support her family. She helped support the family by making trimmings for dresses, collars, for coats and many things by sewing "down" from ducks and geese.

Years later her parents and two brothers came to Utah also, which made her very happy.

Ann passed away on April 16, 1897 at the age of sixty-six in Salt Lake County, Utah.
