George Parker Stoddard

February 6, 1920 ~ April 17, 2007

George Parker Stoddard, 87, of Orem passed away at home, Tuesday, April 17, 2007, from cancer. He was born February 6, 1920 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Stephen Oran and Violet Chidester Stoddard. He married Selma Lee on September 15, 1943 in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple.

George grew up in Delta and graduated from Delta High School. He worked as a beekeeper in Blythe, California for Miller Honey Company where he met his sweetheart Selma. After living briefly in Delta, they started their own bee business in Salmon, Idaho where they lived for 20 years. In 1969, they moved to Rexburg, Idaho where he worked as a building contractor. He and Selma retired and moved to Orem, UT in 1988.

George has served faithfully in many church callings including Bishop of the Salmon First Ward. He was an Eagle Scout and active in Scouting throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife and five children: Diana (Blaine) Shaw, Rigby, Idaho; Cherie (Leon) Twyman, Lindon, Utah; David (Denise) Stoddard, West Jordan, Utah; Douglas (Susan) Stoddard, Blackfoot, Idaho; Bart (Deborah) Stoddard, Orem, Utah; 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; two siblings: Luella Lekan, Independence, Ohio and Ted (Mary) Stoddard, Provo, Utah. George was preceded in death by his brother, Oran; sister, Helen Davenport; and grandson, George Ross Shaw.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lakeview Stake Center, 400 West 1800 South, Orem, where friends may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.
