Adelia Caroline Rogers She lived for three and a half years in Florence, Nebraska, before joining the 10th (last) handcart company to cross the Plains, under the command of Oscar O. Stoddard. She and her husband and four of their eight children left Florence on July 6, 1860. They were promised by George Q. Cannon that through their faithfulness, not one of them would perish on the journey, which was the case. They arrived at Eighth Ward Square, Great Salt Lake, on September 24, 1860, and made their first home in the Big Cottonwood area. She and her husband were then called to settle Shombe, Rush Valley, Tooele County, Utah in 1863. But because the Indians were so bad there, they had to leave that area, and chose to settle in Porterville, Morgan County, Utah, about 1866. Adelia was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her large family. International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Pioneer Women of Faith and Fortitude. USA: Publishers Press, 1998.
